Havent been on TB in a long while,so long I forgot my login and had to sign up again!
Noticed my 755 seemed down on power this season. Just noticed when I turn the ignition on,instead of the electric fuel pump giving a steady clicking, it is kind of sporadic. Starts easy, but coughs a small cloud of black smoke for a split second.

All filters are new and clean, the sediment bowl is full, good voltage at the battery and at the pump. I just cleaned all the contacts and still the same.

Do these pumps get weak, or just 100% crap out?
Any suggestions for the parts? From what I can tell, it is AM876266 or AM876116 (about$200 ) Would a $30 pump from NAPA work as well?

Thanks in advance.

Mine went too , but had no power off an idle. I only paid like 60 for mine from a Deere dealer. I also pulled the tank off and the screen inside was packed with black fuel algae. Given the age you might want to do the same.

It still has power, just seems weaker. I can mow with it, just when I get to the front yard with a gentle slope, I have to back off on the hydrostat to a crawl to keep the revs up.

Good advice about the plugged pickup screen, I'm planning on digging into that this weekend.

Kevin M, Do you still have the pn for the pump you got for yours?

Thanks,

Wow , Your lucky I'm a pack rat, LOL Just got home from work and found the receipt and something else I had been looking for almost a year now, Thanks ! Here is my part # AM876266 it was 58.00 exactly in Aug of 2007. Honestly though pull the out going hose of the pump and turn the key, see if you got good flow coming out of that electric pump before you replace it. Then clean the pickup.

I just looked its the same part # you have. If you want I will ask my dealer what it costs now. That's a huge price increase. WTF. I have run into this before though 2 different dealer charging to different prices for the same part.

Thanks for digging up the pn! Always nice when you are looking for one thing and find something else you forgot you mis-placed:D

No luck hunting this morning, so I got in the shop and started in. Pulled the output line and used it to drain the tank. Electric pump initially gave a sputtering flow, but soon it was steady. Only ran it about a minute, then shut it off. I did that about 4 more times over the course of 45 min until it was empty.
Started to remove the hood and hood support (as one piece) One of the bolts down low by the loader bracket, it's help on with a speed nut, which was broken, so the bolt just spun:mad: A few minutes with the grinder and had the hood and support off. Got the tank out without too many cuss words.

Pulled the sending unit and as I suspected, the pickup screen was rolling around in the bottom of the tank. Plucked it out and the piece of hose that holds the screen to the pickup was crumbled. I bet a few small chunks of that may be in the pump. Went to town and got a bunch of 5/16" fuel line to replace all the OEM, and will purge the pump again.

I'll put it back together tomorrow, and get some of the other R&R taken care of. I'll post an update Sunday night. Thanks!

Got the tractor all back together, but still a little weak.

I suspect the pump may have a pinhole in the diapraghm. I turn the key on and the pump clicks sporadiacally, and never stops (motor off ). It used to turn off once it pressurized the system.

Found a pretty good price online. $84. MUCH better than the $200 I found locally!

I'll order that after Christmas.

Happy Holidays:thumbsup:

Ordered the pump last week and it arrived today.

10 minutes later and the new pump was installed. Started and ran the same, but I didnt take it out to test it under heavy load.

I did notice something; the sight glass on the fuel filter was only about half full. Could I have a different problem?

I'm planning on taking the filer out to check it, and re-priming the system. It just seems that the bowl should be nearly 100% full while idling or engine off/key on.
