Well, the title says it all....I went to change the fuel filter and the shutoff valve is being real stubborn.

With a lot of pressure I got it to begin to turn but, I didn't feel comfortable continuing on with that much torque.

Any idea's on how to proceed.??...

Last year I had to replace the seal (#5) on the fuel shutoff valve because it had a slow drip. You might want to try to remove the screw (#1) above the fuel shutoff valve and pull the whole valve assembly (#1, 3-6) apart to troubleshoot. There is a spring in there, so take it apart carefully. Also, it's probably not a bad idea to replace the seal (#5) even if everything looks okay. Isolate the fuel line to the filter so you don't get sprayed with fuel when you take the valve assembly apart.

Thanks for that reply. Just what I was looking for.

So you are saying the seal #5 is dried out causing the handle to be stuck.?? That's how I see it.

Now, if I take this all apart, am I going to have problems with my fuel line.?? Meaning, bleed the lines and all that, or, where as it is an auto bleed system, maybe not. Seems like the fuel would gravity feed right down into the filter.

Kind of funny, the parts guy gave me seal #10. I guess another trip to the dealer is in order now.`

My JD770 operator's manual says that the fuel system is self-bleeding. If you want to minimize the air in the system after a fuel filter change, you can fill the plastic bowl/cap with fuel before screwing it back on.

I went to that screw today and it was loose from the start. I messed wth the screw and the valve at the same time and it sort of "popped" into place, it was a good sound. At that point the valve wanted to come out but I kept pressure on it to hold it in place, tightened the screw and the valve worked like a charm.

Maintenance has been simple and easy on this 770.

Thank you Tractor Pilot. Spot on.

Sure is nice when problems are an easy fix.

After a winter storm last year, I went out to the barn to get the tractor and noticed a small puddle of radiator fluid underneath the tractor. Thankfully, tightening up a loose lower radiator hose clamp solved that problem.

After that, I went over almost every bolt, screw, nut, etc. on my tractor that I could get to. It was amazing how many weren't tight.
