Looking for a step for our 770. The wife Is a little short in the stirrup! Didn't see one on the parts site but could have missed it. Any part numbers or ideas?
Might look at the steps on some other tractors to see if they can be bolted to yours.
Or fashion one with some angle iron and plate. What is the platform height now? and what do you want the step height to be to get to the platform?
Right now the 770 is at the farm a little over 3.5 hrs away so I can't measure the height. It is a 2wd with Ag tires and the step up is about 6in too tall for the missus.
Was hoping maybe a step for the 790 or more current replacement tractor would work. I don't actually have a torch or welder yet.
Get some 3/8" thick x 2" wide flat bar from your local machine shop. They can bend it in an appropriate shape for a step and bolt that into place. All you'll need us a drill and some wrenches.
Or some nice heavy rubber material to support a lower step. That way you can go as low as you want and not have to worry about clearence issues. Would be similar to say a lot of lower combine steps.
Step from a 790 is part AM880256 $57.86. I'll bet it will go on, maybe have to drill some mounting holes, or might find they are already there. I would try it
Thanks for the good suggestions. And thanks for the part number. I can't imagine the 790 step not fitting since everything is so similar between the 770 and 790.
Wait before you build something until your MMM deck is in place. With the deck in the full up position it will give you an idea how to build a step. This is what I did with my JD855............ The second time...........
the 790 step will go on real easy . I did one once , think I had to drill two holes but the foot rest is the same otherwise as the 790. much nicer than home made.
I installed the JD790 step (AM880256) on my JD770 (thanks to irwin for giving me the idea). You and your wife will love it. I have a couple of pictures of the step on my JD770 toward the end of this thread:
