I know it's "rated" 814lbs, but has any of you lifted more then that?
I do have 1 shim kit installed on the hydraulics.
I've got some sod pallets coming that are supposed to weight 12 - 13 hundred lbs. I have access to some rear pallet forks that can handle the weight. I just need to haul from from the road to the back yard.

Thanks,

P7

You might be pushing it some. Let us know how it works.

I had a pack and a half of shims in mine and I was way overdoing it. I'm guessing what iwas lifting to be between 1000 to 1200 lbs. Made some not so good noises and didn't really like doing it but, it did it. I did this about a dozen times and never broke anything. Tractor is gone now so don't have a long term for you.

I think you're looking to do too much...enough, if fact, you may damage your tractor. Your best bet would be to lower the weights of the pallets by splitting the loads.
But since I know you're going to try it, you may as well see if the loader will even pick up the pallet.
Before you start, make sure you have adequate ballast on the 3PH (and no, a boxblade or cutter won't be adequate ballast). You'll want as much as your 3PH can lift.
Then add air to your front tires. In fact, go to as high a pressure as your sidewall markings allow.

You're looking to do something that tractor isn't designed to do. I hope you do OK, but if you break your tractor, don't look for sympathy or try to blame Deere.

From the OP's post....it sounds like he's going to pick up those pallets using the 3 point and not the loader.

If so, I don't think you are going to ruin anything if you cannot pick the skid up. You may need to re-stack to suit your needs...but you should be fine....I think.

I have pulled a plow and disc to the point of spin-out many times which would be much more strain on the three point than picking up that load IMO. If it wont lift it...it wont lift it. ;)

As for the loader, I have semi-lifted some very heavy boulders and skidded them with the bucket to a new "home". No damage done in either case.....but it may not be the best practice on a regular basis. :D

I think you're right!! In fact, after reading the title of the thread, I know you're right!
When I read the post, I thought he was going to offload from a trailer, then use the rear forks.

You better hope the sod is not wet!

You better hope the sod is not wet!
Unfortunately that may be the case.

Concerning over loading the 3ph: I really don't think I'll damage anything by trying to lift too much. I say that because on several occasions I've been running the sub-soiler, hooked a root and tried to lift up to break it without success. No noises, no hydraulic whine, no mechanical grunts, it just doesn't move. Of coarse, I have no idea how much upward force I'm generating.

This is another occasion where I REALLY wish I had pallet forks for the FEL!

Part of my problem is I've gotten sketchy data from the last two people I've talked to at the sod place. I'm waiting for the guy that supposedly knows, to call me back. Guy #1 says they can deliver it at the road. Gal #2 says the truck has a spider, but can't tell me what a spider is. Last night I find out what a spider is, from another source, and that may solve my problem, 'cause "the road" is 800ft from my back yard where I need the sod. I don't see why they couldn't use the spider to just put it where I want it ( other than just being jerks ).

Between the wet sod comment and the pack and a half comment, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to pick up a full pallet.
I was hoping to save my back for laying the sod and not have to re-pallet, but that may be the best choice as I can then easily move the sod pallets closer to where I'm laying.

Roy, I'll post up as I get more data and/or let you know how I survive this weekend  I'll try to get some pics, so everyone can share in my misery :D

I'm thinking the weight of the sod is a little too lite. Around here sod pallets weigh about 2000-2500lbs. If I were going to try an lift the 3pt would be my choice also. You won't ruin anything if you try it. You'll got to bypass before damage. Let us know how it worked and pics are always appreciated.

Matt:thumbsup:
