Been considering moving to a 790 ...dealer says the 790 can't take a 72" MMM - 60" is the max, though it appears on the deere site a 72" will work. Anyone have a 72" MMM ?

Nope...won't fit.
The 790 can handle a 72" mower with no problem, powerwise. The problem is an interference with the tires (the 790 has a short wheel base) as a dealer's rep told me a few years back.
I'm not sure you can even get a mid-PTO option with the 790 any longer.

As much as I like my 790...why would you want to move to one? You already have a 4310 which is a great tractor.

I almost bought a 790 instead of the 4310 in the first place...I've had 3 major elec repairs on the 4310...and I think in the long run the 790 just has far fewer things to go wrong. I used to buy cars without elec windows because I once owned a 79 bonneville and seemed like I replaced at least one window motor each year. I have 2 friends who have run 790's to death and they just keep going.

Yeah....read my signature line.
Well, can you use a rear mower?

they can still add a mid pto to the 790...I have a RFM now and a MMM will be a lot more convenient for me since I'm doing a lot of finish mowing.

I believe you can't get the mid-PTO with the MFWD (4WD), can you live with a 2WD machine?

The 72" mower will fit with turf tires only. My neighbor had one and his dealer didn't tell him that switching to an R4 tire would interfere with the MMM. After he got the R4's mounted, brought the tractor home and couldn't get the MMM back on. He ended up selling me the MMM and his leaf collector.

I run the model 261 5-foot rear mower and like it, but my main issue is when I'm done mowing I can clean, drop, cover and forget it. I have many other tasks to do with the blade, loader, skidding, etc.

That said, the PO ran a MMM before he added the 70 loader, and the mid-PTO and some associated MMM bracketry still resides on my tractor, never to be used by me. I *could* be persuaded to sell the mid-PTO, but I would need the plate or cover that goes in its place from the recipient of the PTO.
