I have a question for TBN'ers on reversing the front tires on a 790.
Is it and all right thing to do or will it hurt the tractor I can't get a straight answer from the dealer.
I feel that it would give the tractor greater stability moving the front rims further out from the center of the axel.
I also understand that it puts more stress on the axels.
Has anyone done this and is it working.

There was a running thread on this over a year ago, and those that asked the dealer got different opinions. I tried it on my 790 and liked the results, the tactor was more stable on side hills, but it did affect front end geometery and tore up more yard than I liked. I put them back to the original way after reading the threads. Didn't want to take the chance of messing up my front axle.

90 hours and no prooblems. Dealer said it was ok to reverse. The post about tearing up more lawn is correct, but I do not turn around a great deal.I can now cut places I was afraid of before reversal.

Have had mine reversed for almost 2 years now and about 325 hours later, I love it this way. Tractor is a lot more stable. Asked my dealer about and he said by all means do so. It wont affect the warrany and will not hurt your tractor. It does not put any more stress on the axles. Those alxles are way over engineered. They would have to be, due to all the stress, banging around, hitting rocks, etc. God knows I have beat the fire out of mine in this position!!!
If they were engineered to just barely support the tractor in the inner most position, you would not even get 10 hours on your tractor and the front end would be sitting on the ground!!.
I firmly believe the dealers that said don't do it or don't give you an answer, do not know their product very well and are afraid of liability if they said yes. Go for it. E-mail Deere if you have any doubts.

The manual states several options for front and rear wheel spacing. I believe at least on the 4000 they list them for each model. I've looked and i'd say it would increase the stress on the axle since you're spacing the load out instead of being over it that would shift it out about 4-6" but the shafts are so short and the amount of leverage is so small it'd doubt it'd even do anything. and many makes allow inversion of fronts i'm about sure yours would allow it too..

Mine are inverted and I like the stability.

When I bought by 1998 770 in May, the front tires were inverted by the prior owner. It had hrs, probably with the tires inverted. I added more and no problem. I asked the first owner why he did that and he said it was a lot more stable when using the FEL. The only downside is sometimes the valve stems are hard to reach. A small price to pay. I'm keeping them that way.

If you decide to invert them, let us know what you think. I'd be curious to know how much wider the tread is. Probably only a total of about 6-8".

Thanks.

You can figure out the difference by looking at your 790 with the tires set from the factory. When inverted the center "seam" of the front and rear tires are even. Look at your tractor form the front, how much difference is there now between the centers of the tires?

Quick somebody run to the garage and let us know! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the Info I am going to invert them if the tractor ever gets back to my shop. Too much work not enough time! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I may change them on the job site it is easy enough and I will measure and let everyone know the difference /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
