I just got my new 790 and the first thing I did was remove the side service shields and put them away (in the unlikely event I will ever sell it). I just think it looks more like a tractor and less like a lawn mower. I know its not much of a customization but I sure like it better. I'm thinking about removing the plastic cover over the shift lever next. Anybody ever do this?

most new tractors have enclosed engine compartments so by removing your panels makes your tractor more like an older tractor since the new ones have panels. The panels help keep the noise down and dirt out of the engine compartment and really does not hurt the tractor but if you like the looks of the tractor without the panels then that is your choice. Either way congrats on your new tractor and have fun working.

Bomni,

I haven't looked at my 790's engine lately, but won't it collect dirt faster without the panels?

Congratulations on the purchase. I love mine.

You could almost say the same about the muffler, for I to like the stack muffler because it makes it look like a tractor.but the panels can serve as protection when going thru the woods or brush hogging etc..
I like they say..chrome won't get you home.

When I was tractor shopping one thing I noticed is the 790 does have that "classic tractor look", even with the side panels on. I'm lovin' mine, hope yours keeps you smiling too /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
