Price Check 790 Pricing Help Needed.

I was given a quote of $15.3 for a package (790 4WD, 419FEL, 5ft bush hog, 5ft box blade). Is this price good?

I plan to use it to maintain, landscape 6 acres of marshy land in Louisiana. The land is well drained but can be boggy for 2-3 days after a good rain. Will the 790 do the job?

As far as the price, that sounds pretty good for my area (PA), but if I were you...I would get a couple other quotations in your area if you want to ensure you're getting the lowest price.

Hopefully, a couple other TBNer's from Louisiana will comment too.

As far as the 790 doing the work you describe on the acreage, I think you'll find it to be an excellent fit. What kind of tires are you considering? I would think you'd want R-1's (Ag tires) for maximum traction in those wet areas.


The 790 is a robust, albeit, very simple no-frills tractor. I really enjoy using mine!

Thanks for the reply. I plan to use the R1 tires. I think I'll need all the traction I can get when I do work near the lake shore.

That price is ot much over what I paid for my 790 and fel, and you have a couple more pieces of equipment so I would say that is a fair price.

I love my 790; after years of hard to start old clunkers I finally took my wifes advice and I have no regrets! It started the other night at 10 dgrees w/out a whimper.

I have the same package as you but I also got a post hole digger, total price was $15,100.00. So maybe you could do alittle better, however I dont' know how different the market is between Louisiana and Texas.

One thing I have learned from reading here on TBN is how regional tractor prices are.

The other is that far more important than the purchase price is finding a good dealer, hopefully you have.

Best of luck with the 790, I have had mine for a little over a year now and have been very pleased with the tractor.

I have a JD 790 that I bought new in "01". I love it! I have had one battery cable problem that was a quick fix with a universal clamp.
I live on Toledo Bend so we have a lot of rain in this area also. I highly recommend the 4wd.
I thought the price on mine was very reasonable.

My 790 4wd w/ R4 tires, JD 70 FEL and JD 513 brush hog was $ 15,050 out the door. I'm sure they are priced about the same in your area. I shopped all over N La. and E. Tx. and that was the best price I could find !
