Price Check 790 pricing

Went to one of my local JD dealers today to look at the 3120's and 4310's. Very nice machines but a little out of my range on price I think. But anyway they had what I think is a good deal. A new 790 4wd with r4 tires and a loader for only $13288.00 + tax. I test drove this machine and was impressed. the only down fall is it still has the shifter on the floor. I am currently looking at the TC30 new holland and the Kubota l3400. Right now Jd is the cheapest price.

The 790 is a really nice, no frills tractor. If you think you need hydro..well, you need to look elsewhere...

Me...no use for hydro here. At least, I wouldn't spend the added $1500 or more on it.

However, the 790 is an old design. The hydraulics are not up to what some of the newer designed machines are capable of. Of course, I still think the 790 is derated somewhat due to marketing more then capabilities.

I'm 55...I've little doubt my 790 will outlive me unless I do something really stupid.

Having recently researched and test driven as many of the 790 and similar machines that I could, I agree the 790 is a nice unit. I wanted the most hp for the best price, with less concern for creature comforts. Reputation, longevity, and resale 'value' were important too.

I settled on the L3400 only because the price, financing options, and fit (for me) were excellent.

I had become biased against gear transmissions after months on this forum added to my roots with clunky, unweildly gear units. Things have greatly improved, and today's gear transmissions are nothing like those of the 50's machines. I can see the benefit of HST if production loader work is the main use for the machine (ie forward 10 feet, backward 10 feet, repeat all day). Otherwise, gears are great, smooth, dependable, proven, positive (ie you know all your power is going to the ground), and less expensive to purchase and repair.

As has been said so many times here, drive it, love it, buy it.
