I bought my late model 790 tractor, last one the dealer had before the 790 to 3005 change, brand new in '07'. Just after the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty was done, around 250-300 hours so was the water pump:thumbdown:

I replaced the leaking water pump, all necessary gaskets and was good to go.

Now at 600 hours I replaced the water pump again.... Same thing slow leak from weep hole. At least its in an 'off' season, just snow plowing which has been slow till lately.

300 hours water pump failure again....WTF:confused:

Happens again, I am sourcing a water pump somewhere other than deere. Its a yanmar 3TNV82A engine and I have found exact matches for water pumps in komatsu pc30 excavator, yanmar ex2900 tractors and other equipment and of course less money than what the good 'ol Deere seems to need for the same pump, like half as much. If they keep failing like they do, I am willing to try a non-deere part number but still yanmar water pump.

The 790 has been ultra uber reliable tractor for me, except this seemingly early water pump failure stuff...

Curious, has anyone elts have this phenomenon happen with there 790/3005 tractor???

I have not seen any early failures of water pumps on any of the Yanmar powered Deeres. Seal failure is usually caused by a bearing getting loose or contaminants in the coolant. Have you flushed the cooling system and refilled with good quality coolant? If the bearing is getting loose that early, possible belt tension too tight?

Flushed the first time which yielded nothing, Coolant looked pristine also.
Did not flush this time, pump replaced did have tiny bit of loose bearing wobble... As where the first replaced did not. Ya, I still have the original pump.
I added wix-cool this time 'round with the coolant. Maybe that will buy me a few 100 more hours:D
Deere coolant both times also.

I would check both the fan and the pulley to see if they have a wobble or are out of balance. Is there dirt/dust behind the pulley?

Cleaned everything off before assembly, and no wobble to be seen when running.

I plowed out an office yesterday. Half hour or so of working the tractor had no leaks and as expected coolant was down just a little from air working out of everything... Topped it off and called it a successful pump install, again:D

2001 model with about 560 hrs, no prob's whatsoever with the water pump! (Knock on wood lol)

Bringing up an old thread, but my 3005 with about 365 hours is leaking coolant from the front of the motor area, looks like water pump... I need to look closer to see exactly where it's coming from, but kinda bummed out about it... this is the first issue I've had in the nearly 5 years I've had this fine little machine.

Any input on parts suppliers? Yanmar equivalent (cheaper) replacement pumps?

Maybe good idea to find out what/where is leaking first.
