Grading 7ft rear grader blade for 790

Is a 7ft rear grader blade too wide for a JD 790. I know it would easily handle snow but for road and soil grading would it be too much for it. I can get a deal on a 7ft blade. Same price and quality as a comparable 6ft blade.

PS my first post but not my tractor. My dads tractor. He stores it in my garage in the winter. I use it to plow the driveway.

Might be a handful for that tractor, even in wet snow! Might be worth a shot though. You'll find the more you angle the easier to pull. you could always cut some off each end.

As long as it isn't a super heavy duty one (like +1000 pounds), I'd go for it. By the time you angle a 6' blade you'll barely cover your tracks. I bought a brand new medium duty Woods blade for my tractor and found it to be too small so I bought a 8' super heavy duty one. Hey, I just happen to know where you can buy a "like new" Woods 7' blade that has only been used for clearing my driveway for 2 snows.

I have a 6ft blade that I used with my 850 2WD to grade my gravel driveway. The tractor lost traction with the blade loaded about half way. Power was not a problem, it just gave up with the narrow R1s. My 990 pulls it without hesitation. The 790 with MFWD pulling that blade in gravel might be a toss up as to whether it has enough traction.

Hi:

I've used a 6' blade on my 2305 and for snow it worked great (Used
in addition to a front blower). Mostly I used it for 'cleanup' work in the winter
but I probably pushed about 10" or snow fresh snow (Forward after running it over) and the little 2305 was just fine.

I also used it in the dirt and the 2305 pulled it just fine there too. If I hit roots, etc. it was a problem and it did want to push the tractor sideways a little but but other than that fine.

I think you'll be fine with a 7' on a 790.

As others have mentioned, the 790 should perform fine with a 7 footer unless it's super heavy. The only issue you may run into is rotating the blade as it may hit the back tires. Can you try before you buy? I spin mine around often for snow plowing and would be very frustrated if I couldn't.

I have a 6 ft John Deere #45 blade on my 790. I am very pleased with how well the tractor handles it. The MFWD make a world of difference.

go with the 6 footer. iThe 7' will be OK for snow, but you wont be moving much gravel with it.
