Ok I know there are a million opinions out there but help me any way.

I have a Deere 5093E so horsepower isn't an issue. I'm looking for an 8' twin spindle cutter, not a 7 footer or a 10 footer, etc., etc.
90% of the time I'll be cutting grass but like all of us do on occasion I'll find a few saplings and brush that will need to go away and I'll be too lazy to get off the tractor and cut them down :)
So I'm looking at the Deere MX8 but can't decide if I should get the 3 point version or the semi-mount that uses the lower arms and a hydro cylinder on the rear wheels.
I really don't know the other manufacturers so I'd sure appreciate knowing the model numbers of comparable units and your thoughts on 3 point vs semi-mount.

Thanks in advance.

I have a full 3pt mount mx 10 on my 5083E and while its a tad heavy and I could really lug the motor down on a gopher hill. Never had a semi-mount so I can't really compare for you. I will say that without the loader on I can really get to bouncing so the 10 footer is prolly to big and an 8 would be just right. Really nice thing about the 3pt is I can pick it up and set it down onto a large bush that has a thick stump but not much else. Also, I can reach out into a soft spot/ditch and knock the weeds down.

I wondered about that very issue. It is a tough call. The semi-mount will follow the terrain better but there are advantages to being able to pick up a 3 point cutter just like you said.

I find the 3PH more maneuverable. If cutting an area that was just flat sweeps back and forth it wouldn't really matter the mount.

Think which you like more, a 3PH disc or a pull disc. Same general idea.

My cutting is around ditches, waterways, roadsides and timber trails. I prefer mounted. With a hydraulic top link I also gain clearance if backing into an unknown area or crossing a deep ditch. I carry a 10' JD1008. I also carry 840lbs of suitcase weights on the front of the tractor.
