About to do the 800 hour service on our L-3130 GST LA723.

No problems to date as it has been a 100% true blue workhorse, but I was meaning to check the cold intake and exhaust valve settings.

Anyone know what they are, I don't have the service manual.

OMG, I finally get a chance to help Thom with something he doesn't have catalogued in that XXL brain of his! It's about time I get to "give something back".

Short answer: It's the same spec for In./Ex.: 0.0071 to 0.0087 inches (man that's tight), or 0.18 to 0.22 mm for you metric fans out there.

Attached is the page from the manual that has helpful tips on which order to adjust them in based on crankshaft position, etc. If you blow it up, you can actually read it.

That clearance is so tight that it might be a good candidate for a "go,no-go" feeler gauge.

Awesome, thanks allot, that is tight. I am printing that out.

BTW, are the valve specs basically the same for all of the Grand L series engines? I would assume that to be about right.

CT Tree Guy, if you post it, maybe I won't "blow it up"

I see from the BX-23 service manual that the cold valve settings are 0.145-0.185mm or 0.00571 to 0.00728 inches, that is even tighter.

Thom -

From the way the information is being presented in the manual, I am 99.9% (99.999999999%?) sure that the valve clearance (and many other) specs are the same for all the Grand L's. Here's one more spec that might be useful, although I admit ignorance of what it is, at least by this term: "Top Clearance". This spec is 0.0217 to 0.0276 in./0.55 mm to 0.70 mm.

Attached is the manual page this appears on.

And I know you're not going to "blow anything up" other than the attachment, unless of course it's just askin' for it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That "Top Clearance" spec you mentioned has to do with the piston head spacing between the cylinder head, where you take the head off, insert a piece of lead, retorque the heads and remove and measure how crushed the piece of lead is.

Thank you very much for the L-3130 valve specs though. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
