84\" Corriher Finish Mower - first use report

Last fall I picked up one of the 84" Corriher rear finish mowers (made by either FC or Midwest). Got out today and used it for the first time behind my TC40D. Pretty nice piece in my opinion. I mowed about 4 acres in no time. Nice cut, went through pretty heavy grass like butter and the tractor never lugged down.

I misplaced my manual, and don't quite know how to a adjust the height. I presume it is by hcanging the shims on each of the 4 wheels, but if anyone can confirm let me know. Also, there is a u shaped top link thinggy. I ama not sure why I would need that since I let the mower roll along by itself. Maybe someone could enlighten me.

If it is like my Land Pride RFM, that swinging link lets the mower float with the ground contour but still lets you lift the mower clear of the ground. You should adjust your top link until the pin at the mower is aligned vertically above the lower pins. To adjust height, lift the mower and shift the spacer collars on the trail wheel pivot shafts above or below the support arm as needed to get the height you want. RFM's do a good job and are easily unhooked when needed.

As far as the shims...that's correct as far as how to adjust the mowing height.
As far as the "U shaped thingy", that's the upper link attach point. You adjust your top link long enough to allow the U shaped bracket to pivot easily so the mower follows the contours of the land you're mowing. For transport, you shorten the upper link enough so that bracket is tight. For transport, just make sure you don't raise the 3PH high enough to damage the PTO shaft.

You should have grease (zerk) fittings at each of the caster wheels and each of the spindles. I suggest you give them a couple pumps every other time you use the mower.

THanks Roy, I gave all four wheels a good greasing. The antiscalping roller does a suprisingly good job. With a 7 ft mowe I thought I would have issues but it did a nice job.
Thanks,
Lar

Re: 84\" Corriher Finish Mower - first use report

I find on my mower that I do not have to shorten the top link to transport. It will lift clear of the ground if needed. By all means, keep the trail wheel pivot shafts well lubricated. I let mine go one season because of time factors and it was the pits to pull them apart and to clean and lubricate them. On my sandy soil, they will leave ruts if they cannot pivot freely.
