841 Ford diesel Brake issues

This is my first tractor. The right pedal hall way down at rest. Jacked up and adjusted both brakes. Left brake perfect right brake did not rase and sounds like gears grinding when I step on it. Preparing to replace shoes and hardware on right side but have no idea what makes the gear grinding sound. Anything else I could should be prepared to fix while I have it apart?

Does the sound change depending on the speed you are driving the tractor? Does it make noise when not moving? Does that brake work, or does it just make noise?

I only stepped on th right one once it sounded so harmful didn’t try it again I really didn’t give it a chance to stop the tractor. At a slow speed had a little noise on left side that goes away at higher speed

Sound's like classic "metal on metal" after bands are worn out. Tonight's trivia question for the TBN crowd. Why the right and not the left?

Brakes can make a lot of noise. Pull it apart and the source of the noise will likely be obvious.
