I went to replace oil seals on the front right gear case.
While doing so, I noticed that the input gear(M805260) is damaged(Left of picture).
I showed it to the dealer parts guy and he said that I might have to change both spindle gears. I did not have both with me so I dont know if I should or not.
The top spindle gear(right on picture) does not seem damaged but I am not sure what to be looking for. Needless to say that at the price these gears are, I am not going to change them for fun.
Can anyone tell me how to inspect those gears?
Thanks, DSM

Replace the left one and reuse the right one> The right one looks ok in the picture

Thanks! I cant see anything wrong either with the gear on the right. Unless I am supposed to look for something hard to see.
Thanks again for the input.

I believe what the guy at the dealer meant was you might need to replace both the damaged gear and the gear that meshes with it. Often times the gear that meshes with a damaged gear can become excessively worn or damaged itself.

That's what I am thinking too. I am assuming you showed the right and left side, same gear, not the one that meshes to the damaged gear.

The 2 gears in the picture are the 2 that mesh together. The one on the right has no obvious damage but I was wondering how to inspect it.

It's a tractor... it aint going to the moon. I'd run it (the one on the right) and replace the damaged one.

Give it a close visual inspection. If you are really ****, have it magnetic particle inspected.

You can see the wear pattern on both gears, but I find it odd that the teeth chipped on one gear but didn't damage the other. Also odd, that the teeth did not break off, but chipped, and some more than others and not all in a row.

I would look for other issues like bad bearings or broken retainers. Something caused that gear to see excessive loads on the outer edge of the gear that didn't transfer to the full meshed surface.

Did you find the broken parts?
