Having an issue with my 855. My research here leads me to think it's related to the fuel solenoid, but before I start tearing things apart I thought I'd check in with those who know more about this thing than I do.
Under normal conditions, the 855 starts easily even in very cold weather. But I've had an intermittent issue that began during the fall when it had to spend several days parked outside in the rain.
When the problem occurs, the tractor cranks longer before it fires. When it does fire, it's running at a very low speed and very rough. At full throttle it's not even at a normal idle speed, under 1000RPM. Lots of black smoke too. Pulling the throttle back to the idle position will shut the tractor off.
I've also noticed when it's doing this, I can turn the key to off and it'll just keep on sputtering.
Usually when it misbehaves, once it starts I"ll run push it to full throttle, pause long enough to turn the key to off and then slam the throttle to idle. Most of the time on the next try it'll fire up and I can go play. Took two tries on Saturday. Problem seems to be getting more frequent.
As stated, from what I've read here I wonder if the solenoid is the issue, I'm hoping when I tear into it I'll find it's nothing more than some poor connections.
I just use it too much to run off on wild goose chases looking for problems that don't exist.
