861 PTO problems

I have a 1963 Ford 861. A while back the PTO quit disengaging. I was unable to pull the shaft out and I have been mowing with it as is until I have time to work on it. Today it decided to quit turning all together. With the tractor off I can turn it counter clockwise but clockwise only a little bit until it catches. Any thoughts on what might be wrong would be very helpful. Also any drawings of the assembly would be helpful. Thank you.

01 model was from 58 thru 62 model years. a 63/64 model years were the 2000/4000 4 cyl.

not that it matters.. the pto on an 861 and a 4000 4 cyl with a 5spd are identical.

have you removed the inspection cover with the pto lever in it?

your parts manual and service manual have detailed drawings of this area.

if for some reason you do not own these very important manuals for the piece of machinery you own, then you can go to the new holland website and then go to the parts/ service section.. and do a search on an 861.. then pull up the sections for the pto, rear and center sections.

also.. do you have an orc on the pto shaft?
