Hey guys could use a little help with tracking down some rear rims for my new project. It is a 871 ford, 61 model. I would love to find new rear wheels for the restoration. I can find 6 hoop all day long, but mine are the adjustable, any contacts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking for the pto handle and cable that the SOS models came equiped with.

You are gonna find them are some spendy power adjust rims.. the ones with the ribs on the inside of the rims. I think I'd be tempted to cut-n-paste if I had a set of donor rims. You see those on the 01 seres alot.

As for the pto shifter cable... CNH still carries it.. or did.. but it's a whopper of a price tag..

That's why nobody likes to spend much money buying an SOS tractor.. as you can easilly get into deep pockets fixing them.. depending on what is wrong.

try a salvage yard like wengers of PA..

might also try posting onthe ford board at YTmag.. there is a small following of S&M people that maintain SOS tractors.. ;)

Thanks Soundguy I have exhausted all those avenues I am lucky to have one of the last sos certified mechanics in the country just down the road and a huge wealth of info he is. I have decided to go the route of all new 6 hoops that way i can go up to a 15 inch wheel which will be a nice might of tracked down a used pto handle too. Wengers was a bust but they did have another odd part I was looking for.

Those power-adjust rims look pretty rusty, but are they past the point of repair? Seems a shame to put something (6 hoop) so obviously not original on what will turn out to be a real beauty when you're done.

With all the problems of the SOS, I'm surprised to hear there aren't lots of rims floating around.

Well yes in the beginning the sos was brought to the public a little fast and there where problems for the first year or two put the problems seemed to be solved and if you have a good one it lasts a long time. On the 881 model you got a two speed pto 540 or 1000 and it even had a plate for a mid pto nice features. The rims aren't that bad one is okay the other needs replaced, but since you can get the 6 hoops pretty much anywhere you can buy clear up to a 15 inch which is a nice upgrade compared to the 12.4 on it now.

We had a '59 971 up until a few years ago. The man that worked on it came out of northern Ohio, but was coordinated through the Ford/NH dealer in Hillsdale.

I'll admit it was a pretty cool machine, but the problems just seemed to be never ending. The 800 and 900 series had a lot of HP to be fed through such a quick responding machine. We didn't much care for the several "free-wheeling" gears either, as our land is a bit hilly.
