There was a great photo posted here (last week) of a 8B on a 990 in a discussion of the 448 hoe.

From what I could see, the mounting brackets a a bit different from my 8A (on a 970) but not much.

And based upon what I could see, I wouldn't expect that you'd have too much difficulty mounting the 8A to your 990.

You will also need the Power Beyond hydraulic connections from the 1070 as well....

http://www.deere.com/en_US/govsales/purchaseguide/2006PG/links/42_43.pdf

This link will provide you with info regarding 400X and 400CX loaders. This same link was used in an earlier discussion regarding 300 series loaders (and 419 loaders).

Nonetheless, I believe if you root around the site and review the *.pdf files that are available, you should find info regarding the 8B backhoe.

I don't have the specs (need to track down my owner's manual) for the 8A but I'll post them later (gotta get to work...).

We can compare specs at that time--- but, I would venture a guess and state that aside from a small refinement of mounting brackets --- the hoes are virtually the same in capacities.

Grizz,

I can't believe you did that to the ROPS on your 990. Mine was 1" too tall to clear the door on my barn which was the perfect excuse to build another building. It's also nice to have a place to mount a canopy.

Grizz,

Your subframe mount looks almost identical to mine (8A), except the rear mount. It's just slightly different but it looks like the mounting hole locations are the same.

What are the black boxes next to the subframe in the pics?

Thats the base of the of the stabilizers.

Gizmo I had to cut my rops off to haul it in my enclosed trailer
I sieve the top of my rops so I can still put my canopy top back on.
( then put a pin to secure the rops on)

Grizz -- Thanks. Great photos.

Looks like the swing cylinders on the 8B are a solid, chrome shaft. The 8A has large chain links extending from the hydraulic cylinder that forces the boom to the left and right.

From your pics, the basic layout looks like -- for the most part -- identical from the 8A to the 8B.

My owner's manual lists the specs for the 8A as;
Boom lift ability -- 400 lbs.
Bucket roll force -- 3,200 lbs. (estimated)
Bucket pry-out force -- in excess of 6,000 lbs.
Operating weight -- less subframe mount and bucket -- 950 lbs.
18in. bucket weight -- 94 lbs.

Digging depth -- 8 ft. 6 in.
Loading height -- 6 ft. 10 in.
Reach for Center line of Swing pivot -- 11 ft. 1 in.

There are other specs, but they're not all that sexy; i.e. stabilizer spread, ground clearance etc.

I took some of my own advice --- and went snooping around on a web site that listed the eqipment specs in a *.pdf format. The deere site for governmental purchases. Here it is and it lists quite a bit of JD equipment.

ttp://www.deere.com/en_US/govsales/purchaseguide/2006PG/links/30_31.pdf

This one lists the specifications for the JD7 and JD8B backhoes.

If you want to review some of the technical specifications for various JD equipment (utility-landscape) go here ---

ttp://www.deere.com/en_US/govsales/purchaseguide/

Go here and click on the purchasing guide. A single page *.pdf file will load up. Click on the individual attachment reference and page number within that page. That will bring up the *.pdf specs for the particular attachment.

Enjoy

I have an 8b hoe on order for my 970 but am researching a thumb for it. I am looking for the width of the arm where the base of the thumb would attach, can somone give me that dimension as I can not find it anywhere on the internet?
