Working on an 8N Awesome Henry 302 V8 conversion. Still have not got the motor running. Plan was to start it today but we ran into what we think might be a ringgear problem even though Don at Awesome Henry says this has never caused a problem and all his flywheels are built this way.
Starter howls - the awesome henry ringgear has the almost square cut towards the starter drive gear.
Shouldn't the beveled side of the ringgear face the starter drive gear?
Could that be the source of the howl?
This happens whether the motor is bolted to the tranny or not so the eliminates the pilot bearing.
Happens with old and new starter. Starters run quiet off the tractor.
No bolts are hitting anything and motor turns freely by hand with the plugs pulled.
Anyone have any thoughts or comments?
We are getting a new ringgear and will install it in what we call the correct way and see if that makes a difference.
