8n clutch

I am about to takle replacing the clutch on my 1952 for 8n tractor. I nver done this before on a tractor, I have replace the clutch on my car and I am somewhat mechanic savy. Am I getting over my head? Anything I should know?

do get the I&T fo-4 manual.

cut some wood wedges and wedge in the axle pivots so the engine don't flop over on ya.

use a floor jack so you can roll her apart.

DO consider changing the 3$ tranny input shaft seal... also.. as a tip.. if you don't get a disposable clutch align tool.. the input shaft makes a good tool.. then you can replace the gasket and seal :)

check all the associated parts.. throwout and pilot bearing.. etc.

I think you could do the whole job in an hour if you have everything ready. Once you split the tractor, it's quite simple--and it's right up in the air where you can get at it. Use some wooden blocks to support the engine, and watch out the front wheels kind of want to flop around when the radius arms are unfastened. Support the tranny with a shop jack and roll it back out of the way a couple of feet. Make sure when you install the clutch disc you turn it the right way in. I made a clutch alignment tool out of some 3/4 inch plastic pipe and a 3/4 to 1/2 adapter fitting. It's been a couple of years, but I think I twisted the PTO shaft at the back of the tractor to line the splines on the tranny shaft up, with the PTO lever engaged, tranny in neutral.

the N has a built in clutch alighment tool.. the input shaft. since it needs it's seal changed at clutch change anyway... it's a 2-fer one deal..
