is it normal for all control of lift arms to be in the top 1” of the quadrant?
I am having awful time trying to level some sand with control being difficult.
thank you

That is certainly not the way the lift arms work on my '51 8N

Make sure the little lever under the seat is in the implement control position (horizontal) and not in draft position (vertical), if it is in the correct position then the cam follower pin is worn out and possibly the cam is worn as well. To fix that you must remove the top cover and replace the pin, I usually replace them with piece of 5/16 drill bit. If the cam is worn it can be built up with a torch and some bronze rods.

Thanks so much for reply’s.

did replace the follower pin, cylinder, piston and o ring etc. but I do in fact have lever in draft position 😳.
will try that tomorrow for sure. My blade drifts down to ground in about 5 minutes. No dripping from above but there is foam riding out of my pump when blade drifts dn.

Well I put the lever in implement control position but it burst my excitement by still only controlling with top inch of quadrant.
When control lever is moved slowly to within inch of quadrant top the back blade starts to lift and shudder and moves to total up position without further movement of control lever.

Sounds like it is time for an R&R of the top cover linkages.

I would agree.
Had a similar issue with my Ford 1920 (1989), and it required a new lift piston seal.
Not a bad job, and works fine now.

Thank you for the kind replies.
I have installed new cylinder with new style piston. No leaking from top side now but foaming from inside of pump as back blade drops.
have installed new cam follower pin and adjusted linkage with Zanes thang.

Did you by chance replace the relief valve? With the side cover off look for swirling oil at the back of the pump. With a new pin and adjustment with Zane's tool it should be right.

Thank you much for that tip!
I did at one point and didn’t see any noticeable oil swirling but will look for that again.

Is a problem in the pump a possible cause of my control issues?
