8N, NO Brakes, How much $

I have a 600 and 8N for sale. The 600 should bring $3000-$3500. The 8N runs good, metal good, needs paint, new tires on front, very good rubber on back.

Problem NO BRAKES, I don't have time to fix nor do I want to take it to someone to have fixed. 8N's around here go for $2000-$3000.

How much does it cost to fix brakes, (need to replace seals) and I will subtract that off the sale price?

How much would an 8N in very good condition, but no brakes, be worth?

A new set of shoes go for around $50. Seals go for something less than that, but it depends if it's an early or later model 8N. In either case shoes and seals shouldn't be more than $100. Brakes are an easy fix and I'd only deduct about $200 from what you expect to get for the tractor.

Thanks for the reply. I just wasn't sure how much the fix would cost. I'll deduct 200 or 300 off the price.

Also, in addition to that, if you have just a little time, and want to get -some- brakes.... just for safety during load / unload. you can first, lower the oil in the sump to a safe operating level for the pump and rear gears.. but lower than the axle trumpet mouths. Pull the bottom bolt inthe inspection port with the dipstick.. let oil dribble out till it is at that level. Also.. use the 90wgl-1 oil.. not the thinner 134d stuff.. leaks less.

Next, take some brake / carb spray cleanr and try to hose down the shoes and working as mush as you can thru the brake adjuster slots, and spaces between the dust cover backing plates. The try adjusting the brakes a bit untill they drag and then back off a click. You may be surprised that it is simply an adjustment issue. I bought a 660 with 'no' brakes and got home and adjusted them up fine.. can lock eaither wheel now.
