I just picked up an 8N as a project tractor, and am in need of a few parts.

Other than the NH/ford dealerships, is there a good source on parts for restoration of these machines?

I'm looking for the metal cross tube from the air breather to the carb, also a tach, and the rubber ?bushing ( holds grease.. not sure of the name )? for the left side stering link, where it pivots , near the front.. again not sure of the name for this part either. Tomorrow I'm going to go get a manual for it as well.

Thanks in advance for any leads. Parts suppliers and individuals with parts to sell feel free to send me email, or private messages. The breather tube doesn't have to be new.. just functional.. but new is ok too. Also will need the short rubber hose sections that fasten the breather tube to the carb and air cleaner.

thanks

Man, you're busy - I'd have chosen the 8N, too. In fact, it's what I was gunning for before I got distracted by all the shiny colors. I have no experience with some of these links but here they are: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mikestractors.com/cgi-bin/ws400.cgi?store=Ford.setup&cart_id=&r_data=31948-1000920042911607%7CNeil+Reitmeyer%7CNseries.com%7C207+Laurel+Drive%7C%7CShohola%7CPennsylvania%7CUnited+States%7C18458%7C570-559-7494%7C%7Cneil%40nseries.com%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.nseries.com%2Fparts.html&rsc=31948-1000920042911607&rsc_mail=neil%40nseries.com&rsc_name=Return+to+Nseries.com&rsc_rfw=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nseries.com%2Fparts.html>Mike's Tractors</A>. I got there from N_Complete; again, I just made up a small folder of N-series links for parts and pictures - I don't know anything about these guys.

I suppose it goes without saying that it'd be nice to see some pix.....

Try http://.n-news.com/ Its a news letter specically for early Ford 9N, 8N, 2N, and NAA's. Its a good source of networking with other ford ownersand new old stock suppliers. Lots of great ideas too.

Another good place to try would be http://www.just8ns.com/

I ought to sell you both of mine for parts. There wouldn't even be much to take apart, lots of five gallon buckets to go through, though. Anyway, www.just8ns.com. I've ordered parts from this guy, one man operation. I ordered the parts on Monday, got them Thursday UPS. Good prices and he has some used parts. You can order from the website or, preferably, call him. I forget the guy's name but he's very interesting and knows everything about those tractors.

I'm almost afraid to take pics of it now.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The engine runs very smooth, but will smoke a bit if you up the accelerator real fast.. but then goes back to no smoke. There is no noticible pressure coming out of the crankcase vent, and no smell of gas ion the oil, so I'm thinking I may hav ethe card adjusted a bit rich. Don't know.. just got it this morning. The tin is a bit rough in places.. but the hyd's and pto works good. One brake needs to be adjusted, while the other is perfect. Steers nice, with no play in the steering box, and no play on any of the wheel bearings, and no leaks on the concrete, after sitting there and letting it idle for 20 minutes.

I more or less am going to have mostly body work to do on it, with a few parts to replace, like the tach, grill, ammeter, breather tube, possibly one of the lower lift arms.. as someone bent it then welded it.. it works.. but looks bad. A few 'ford' plaques, some paint and decal set.. possible the steering wheel, needs new rubber all around.. tires must be holding air out of force of will...need to replace some functional but messy wiring and stud on the front and rear right side wheel hubs.. probably adjust the throttle linkage, and new rubber boots on the shifter, and some ?grease boots? on the tie rod ends... ( whoosh.... I wonder how long of a project this is going to be /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif )

In no time at all you will have her in show quality. Nowadays there are a considerable number of shows and events for vintage tractors.

My dads 1941 9N took second place at our local 14th annual Sky Valley Antique Tractor Show and Threshing Bee, earlier today. He also got honorable mention for the tractor that traveled the farthest. As this was one that he restored in Alaska, before shipping it here to Washington State. These shows are alot of fun.

Hey, I smoke a little if I'm accelerated, too.

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://home.att.net/~jmsmith45/50fd.htm>Here's</A> a neat idea - I've had the 4th picture down (front 3/4 view) as a background on my PC for a few years. It comes from the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://home.att.net/~jmsmith45/index.html>Smiths' 8N page</A>. Just something to get the "juices" flowing.

That is a good looking tractor. I bet it looks brand new driving by it at 40MPH! ;) Is that grill guard held together by rivets? If it is it's an original. Those are high dollar. If I remember right the guy at just8ns was going to get someone to reproduce the original rivets so you could replace that bottom bar that is missing and make it look brand new. The best place to go for advice on those tractors is www.ytmag.com . They have a 9N-2N-8N forum that has some serious 8N fanatics on it.
