Well, Neil, Thomas, and others, I guess I'll try to explain:

I originally bought a place in the country to have a place to move my parents next door, and did. However, now Dad is gone and Mother is in a wheelchair living with my sister in town. They think we ought to be closer to them and/or visit more often than we're able to. We bought in this particular area for two reasons: cheap land and my wife had a brother and sister-in-law living nearby. The sister-in-law has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and they sold their place this past year and moved back into town. She's handling the disease much better than she's handling the distance from my wife. The two of them have always been very close.

My youngest brother also bought 10 acres nearby to be near us and our parents, and the other brother (single, living in a motorhome) also fixed a place for his motorhome on the younger brother's place. Now the younger brother's health has deteriorated to the point that he had to retire and he's selling his place to go back to living in an RV to spend more time near their kids in the states of Washington and Alaska. So we'll have no family in the immediate area.

Of course, I also had a little supplemental income from an air tool repair business here at home that depended on my brother bringing the air tools to me for repair, so that's gone now and there really isn't much way to make any money out here without driving a long distance to work (or without being tied to someone's else's hours and schedule/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif).

We have two grown daughters and grandkids in town who think we should be closer to them.

My wife's mother (and a couple of brothers and a sister and their families) are in West Virginia and think we ought to visit them more often.

And while there's been nothing serious, I've had 6 little minor surgeries in the past 7 years, and my wife's had a few thousand dollars in medical expenses in the past 6 months. We're getting on in years and it's 20-25 miles (pretty rough roads) to a supermarket, doctor, hospital, ambulance, etc. And IF anything happened to me (heaven forbid), it would be quite a job for my wife and daughters to dispose of things here. So I have to agree with others that it would make a lot more sense for us to either be in town or at least closer to town. And I'd like to have time to do just a little more traveling myself.

So . . ., I really do want to sell this place, tractor, implements, shop, tools, etc. However, I'm willing to sell at a considerable loss, but I ain't gonna just give it away, so I may or may not be moving before the year's over. Either way, I'll probably still be around TBN for quite some time./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Hey, if I get back closer to town, I might even be able to get high speed Internet access instead of having to use these antique phone lines out here./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird -

That's considerably more of your personal life than any of us are worthy of knowing, but the fact that you shared it all is evidence that we're all family here.

I hate it when life gets in the way of living, but I certainly understand and appreciate your reasoning. There's probably a lot of us here who feel worse about you saying goodbye to your property and tractor than you do, but that's only because we've been vicariously living at your place for quite a while now. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

You're right about staying on TBN -- the worst that happens is we get to hear more from you when you get a new jiga-hertz connection and don't have to weed the garden every other day. If you do travel, however, I hope it's from one computer pub to another, so's we can tag along. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Which reminds me -- the one thing ya gotta hold onto is that nifty digital camera you bought so you can share your new adventures with us.

Bird

Can't say much more than Harv has already done.

One must face up to the realities of life. All my grandparents live/lived in their city houses all their life, and it was hard enough work for my folks to look after them and their affairs. Let alone any of them having farms/properties.

So it appears that you are putting your family and others ahead of your interests, something I have gathered you do a lot of anyhow. Sending me that video sort of tells me that /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good on you for that, but yes I guess it will be a very sad day indeed when you move from your castle. (How long have you been there?)

Cheers and good luck /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Harv, Neil, & Thomas, I appreciate the concern and interest, but it ain't anything to worry about. My wife and I are highly adaptable folks/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif and always manage to find plenty to do. Heck, IF we the sell the place and move, I might even find time to dust off my golf clubs./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And Harv, I thought the late hard freeze we had recently might have gotten the plum crop for this year, however, look what the trees have done in the past 72 hours (cloudy this morning, so this amateur photographer didn't get the best picture in the world/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif).

>>Anyone want to buy a B2710 for about $90,000.00 and I'll throw in all the implements, attachments, trailer, and a 10 acre farm?<<

depends ... do you deliver and would the farm be delivered in one piece?

No delivery service, Wingnut, but I might be talked into including an '81 F250 Ford if you want to try to do it yourself./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

If I could move it 20 miles in almost any direction, it'd be worth 50% more./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif You know what these realtors say - the three most important things are location, location, and location./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

BIRD:

It would seem life is an never ending series of journeys. Some are short, others are longer.

Best of luck on you new one.

Nothing wrong with that picture, Bird! It's downright purty!

Your trees seem to have taken on some of your own characteristics -- occasionally down, never out.

Bird, I haven't been on TBN that long but I have really appreciated your info and pictures and hope you will stay with us for a very long time. I completely understand the move closer to family, my wife and I did the same about five years ago so she would be able to run the family business and take care of her parents. PS go for the DSL line it's really cool
