Update...I've finished 98% of the fabrication and installation of the log lift a couple of weeks ago...after deciding to use a larger/longer stroke cylinder (that I had on hand, originally intended to raise/lower a 7' sickle bar)...it was fairly simple (after one or two boo-boo corrections...!)
But having to deal with some unforeseen hydraulic issues getting a two spool valve to work I have just today got to actually test the log lift:

I lifted about a 75# round without any movement but I have some rounds that are close to 300#'s !
I am concerned about this and will be looking at adding some bracing or even some anchors...
Eventually this entire setup...splitter, lift etc...will sit on a mobile base (trailer) and be self contained for hydraulics...may even make it more of a processor...already have a small knuckle boom in the design/material accumulation stage...just have so much other stuff going on...!

...Ooo and another thing you might consider is a removable stabilizer leg so that when you lift the heavy ones the splitter doesn't tip over ...
