My father has a 95 Cat 416, 4x4, x hoe and it has been a great machine. I think there is only about 4K hours on it, but it has been super reliable and strong. Only two things that we have had consistant trouble with:
-The X hoe cylinder leaks all the time. We have rebuilt it twice and had a Cat replacement and the replacement's packings let go just recently.
-The fuel filter set-up is a glass bowl with many small gaskets that always appears air tight, but some how gets air-bound. Its only a problem when starting cold and trying to run it too hard too quickly. A quick few pumps on the primer and she's good to go for the rest of the day. Can't seem to figure it out, but its been like this for at least 5 years and she still runs great.
I'd kick the tires on both to see which was better taken care of. 3rd party buckets for these aren't to expensive, but doing pins and bushings is. You didn't mention the hrs or any attachements on the 416. As far as I know the 426 only gives you a little more digging depth.
