I found a drop of oil on my garage floor and discovered that my front right axle is seeping gear oil. It doesn't seem to leak all of the time but it does seem to keep showing up. I attached a pic of the axle and it looks like seal # 8 is the seal that is leaking. Anyone replaced this seal or know if it could be worse than just replacing this seal?

Thanks...
Tony

That's not a bad fix, under 2 hours the first time, under an hour next time. Make sure you have a decent pair of circlip/snap ring pliers, (internal and external).

Thanks for the info. I have both, and should be taking this on within the next week or so. I hate leaks....

Same for an 855? Mine appears to be weeping from the same location. Not badly, a touch on teh sides of the housing. No time so I make sure it's topped off and flush it clear now and a gain to be sure it's not getting worse.

I'm pretty sure the 855 is the same.

Okay, I got it apart without having to remove the whole shebang. I just removed the tie rod control arm and there is the seal. I was told by the dealer that I should replace # 7 (Seal Bushing) also. Does anyone know if this is a pressed on bushing or should it pretty much slip off?
I'm thinking that it is pressed because it is another way for oil to get out otherwise.

I noticed something else, there is a clicking noise when I spin the hub by hand. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance.

Some clicking is normal. It is the normal meshing of the gears. Is the clicking uniform?

Yes, it is very uniform. Although. It doesn't seem to do it if I turn it slow.

Well, I finished it. It was quite easy, I was able to do it by only removing the top control arm while supporting the bottom knuckle. I removed the sleeve bushing which has a rubber inner race and the seal. Put it all back together. I reckon it will only take me about 20 mins next time I do it.
Thanks for all of your help!!
