Hi all. New to the forum but I have sure learned allot in a short time. My question is I have a 955 fwa with a fel and no hydraulics on the rear. I would like to pull a planter over some food plots. The planter is a JD 7000 4 row with 2 hydraulic hoses. Any info would sure be appreciated.
Thanks, Barry

Well... my first thought is that sounds like a pretty big load for a not so big tractor!

The hydraulic issue could be addressed with the addition of a Power Beyond circuit to your tractor.

Then you'd need a open center valve body with at least one outlet.

Or you could run a fasse valve off of your loader hydraulics and divert flow to a rear outlet...

Head on over to some of the other forums i.e.; Projects, Attachments, etc. and do some searches on "hydraulics".

But, the questions still lingers --- is that planter really something you want to be pullin' with a 955?

Thanks for the reply on my hydraulic question.
I agree that this planter will be a load and possibly to much of a load but before I bring another tractor in I would like to give it a try. I only have 5-10 acres that I plant and it would be really handy if it would work. The land is table top flat so that will make a difference.
I went and talked with the shop manager at my local deere dealership and we decided to try a simple jumper hose, running from the loader outlets to the rear of the tractor with a coupler on it. The planter is at my farm in southern Iowa about 140 miles from where I live, so I can't try it out for a week or two.
If this idea doesn't work I'll give you plan a try or I may look into a differernt tractor.

Thanks again. Barry

The JD955's 3-pt has a lift cap of less than 1000 lb. It is a
great tractor but the only one I have owned or operated where
the loader can lift more than the 3PH. That may not be enough
for your implement.

Anyway, you can plumb to add-on valves at the rear by
connecting to the main hyd brock just under the seat. If
you have a parts book, it shows the one part you need to
buy from JD, a $2 hex plug. The rest of the connections use
std ORB fittings. You do have to remove right fender and seat
and a bunch of other stuff.

Thanks for the info.
The only thing I can tell you about the 3pt is that I have a Frontier interseeder that the book says weighs 1000# and it picks it up fine. You can tell its heavy for the tractor and when I think about it sometimes it is just a tad slow when the seeder is loaded but I get along ok.

I will look into your hyd idea, I like it. For now do you think my jumper hose idea will work? thanks allot. Barry

If I correctly understand your idea --- sounds like it will definitely work. But, you will not be able to either curl or lift your FEL at the same time. And you'll have to get off the tractor and disconnect the rear hydraulic hose; reconnect the FEL hose in order to use your FEL.
But, it's a cheap and easy answer to your problem. And it will allow you to test the 955 against the planter.
Won't have a big investment into changing the 955 hydraulics if things don't work out, and the tractor just doesn't have the umphf to do the job.

A section of hydralic hose, a quick disconnect male coupler, a rear female coupler and you're in business! (A few good nylon strap ties, too.)

Just reread my post... You'll need 2 hoses, etc. (In a hurry, and well, you get the drift.)

Yep. already got the hoses made, now just waiting to get to the farm to give it a try. I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks, Barry

BigDog:

There is no reason you could not disconnect hoses to one of the
loader circuits at the cylinder hose. Note that the 955's loader
valve is right on the main hydraulic block, only a couple of inches
ahead of the power beyond port. It also uses steel lines between it
and the QA bracket so it would be actually easier to hook up to the
pwr byd port with std ORB fittings than messing with the loader pipes.
That would be your permanent connection of course.

My manuals show the 955's hyd syst pressure is 2500psi, the 3PH
lift cap is 957lb, and the 70A loader lift cap is 1450lb.

Big Dog,
Did you try it out yet? I'm just curious to see how it worked out for you. Planters don't use too much HP. Are you planning on no tilling with that 7000 and what kind od tires do you have on your 955?
