I'm looking at a '99 4400, bare tractor (no loader), 15 hours, R-1's, reverser transmission. The tractor is in brand new condition. There is no warranty. Seller is asking $10,500 firm. Looks like a good deal to me but for some reason I'm on the fence. I'd welcome your thoughts.

The 15 hours sounds like a dash/hour meter change... get the tractor serial number, go to a Deere dealer and plug it in the service computer for a history... then you can best judge for yourself...

In the meantime... ask a bunch of ???'s about the low hours, what was repaired (in 15 hours?), etc.,etc.... then ask the same questions again... after you have the service history printout in your hands... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The seller IS a deere dealer. The tractor was stolen off of their lot, recovered, sat in impound for 2 years and now they have it back and dropped the price to move it quickly. They indicated that an extended warranty could be bought from deere for 300 - 400 dollars but they would have to check into it.

Now I could totally be wrong but if that tractor was stolen, that means it wasn't registered with John Deere. John Deere I thought was like New Holland and it goes by the date the tractor was registered. The 4400 is still a fairly new tractor and should still be able to be registered. The registered date is the start of your warranty.

I believe automobiles are that way also.

The other thing I would do is to look at the new John Deere 4X10 series that is comproble to the 4400 and price that out. You can go to John Deere's web page and use the calculator there. The price there is manufactures suggested price. If you deal good enough you should be able to take 10 to 20% off. But your price does look pretty good. But what did the thieves do with the tractor in that 15 hours.

Geez Brad... you may have a special and unusual find... If that's the case... it's very possible the insurance company paid the claim... then it was found... dealer repurchased it back lots cheaper than from the mfr...??? (lots of speculation going on here... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

If that's the case... pay the extra few hundred for the peace of mind extended warranty and you might as well get the FEL now and make it a true package and bargain deal... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
