99 f350 relay location help

ok.. page 155 of the owners manual for the superduty/99 shows power distro box under the hood by the brake cyl. far right column shows 30-37, 6 large blocks and 2 small ones at the bottom.

in the distro box, it is actually 3 large relays, then 3 smaller relays, with the 2 small blocks at the bottom being diode spots, 1, unused.

pgs 155-157 show what's in all them spaces ( box has 19-37 showing in the book diagram.. but the list of what is what is numbered to 40 )


so where's relay 38, 39, and 40... i need to test # 39, trailer tow battery charge relay. i believe that should make the bat pin hot on the 7 pin trailer plug with truck running.. etc.. does on my 250 and 450 don't on the 350 or did and don't now.. can't recall checking.. anyway.. it don't now... so need to check that relay.. but according to block diagram, only up to 37 is in the distro box.

any help is appreciated.

checking a hunch... i see 2 external enclosures next to the distro box.. one populated.. one .. previously populated it looks like ( did I pull these for something? ) gonna go out to the barn and check the f450 as it is a 99 as well... the 04 250 is completely different under the hood.

if it is that empy enclosure I'm good. i have a bag of spare relays and fuses from when i changed the GEM module/fuse block in that 350 last year... came with all new fuses and relays.. etc

I think I remember reading that Ford needed a relay or a fuse for that wire to work, so I think you are on the right path.

as luck would have it.. I can't find my bag of spares.. but believe it is a foab 14b192 aa relay...

have to see if napa has a couple...

any idea if ECH AR272 will fit?

( looked in the 450.. slightly different setup.. so not much to compair to.. ho-hum... )

Just try pulling the relay out of the 450 and try it in the 350 to see if you can get it working.

update.. found my bag of spares, so tomorrow am when I got time to work on it I'll drop 2 of them into the 2 empty spots on the 350 and then plug in my 7 pin to cig lighter adapter and see if it works.

( glad i found the bag.. has about 30 fuses and 3 of those relays inthere... good to have for a ford family.. )

I believe you have it nailed down. I had to put a relay in one of those two separate boxes to get the aux power to work on my 7 pin. mine is a 2000 f250 so they should be the same.

did you have 2 boxes next to your distro, and each box had spaces for 2 relays? and was only one of the boxes populated? the one towards the front of the truck.. that's the way mine is.. though from looking at the rear box.. it USED to be populated. I'm guessing prev owner needed them.. cuz i sure don't recall pulling them.. unless i did it when install my brake controller and did if for some odd testing reason or something??

I had to replace the relays in mine, previous owner pulled them when he unhooked tow wiring harness and installed power tailgate.

well, that did it.. I popped in 2 of my spares while I had the air compressor plugged into the cig lighter outlet in the 7 pin.. turning the ignition on made pump run, and kille dit when off.
