Angsguy,
Try pulling the suction line out of the tank. There is a screen on the end, clean it off. If it has "gunk" on it from stale fuel that is most likely your problem. (no tools required). next step is fuel lines and clamps, filters etc...

Wnc3,
All I can say is THANK YOU! Pulled the tube out, and it was caked solid with the black gunk as you described. Cleaned it with some thinner and mowed for about an hour without it stalling. More power than I ever had! You saved me a trip to the dealer and who knows how much $. Can't thank you enough. When the tank empties out some, I'll try to clean it out as well. This mower was serviced by a JD dealer just before I bought it. I wonder why they would'nt check this? General question, what type of fuel do most use? Offroad/Ag, or On road low sulphur?

You are very welcome!
I have heard the red dye from Offroad fuel can separate over time and cause problems, but don't know for fact. I use both based on what is in my transfer tank on my pickup. I have also started adding Startron fuel treatment to my diesel and gas engines that are not used frequently.

(apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread)
