A/C question 06 F250

My wife and I bought a used 06 F250 lariat fx4 w/ the 6.0 diesel about 3 months ago. Sunday it was raining and cool and when my wife jumped in the truck she turned the temp up to 78 and fan to full speed. Very little air came out then 30 seconds later warm air (which is what she wanted..warm air not cold) came out full blast. Is this normal? Does the truck heat the air before discharging? The system is digital.

I think that is normal for automatic climate control ( at least that's what ford used to call it )

This sounds similar to my Expedition. Since the heater coil uses coolant from the engine to warm the air, the engine coolant must actually be WARM first before the heater will function.

Mine has the automatic climate controls as well and it won't blow much until things warm up.

It should fire right up when you request cool air.

In our 04 Chrysler Pacifica, there is an "Auto-High" option that when used will wait until the heater core is heated and then blow the air into the cabin. You can just put the fan to high and temp to high instead of using the Auto-high feature but it will just blow cool air until the heater core warms up.

Your truck may be the same...

The cold air comes on right away...what you described is exactly what it does. I have not owned a vehicle that did this before, usually I had to sit in a few minutes of cold air before it warmed up, thats why it caught me of guard.
