I've seen several JD threads where some are shimming a valve to get a little more power out of their loader. Is this possible on the New Hollands? In particular the 10LA and TZ tractors?

I have been very impressed with the little TZ but would just like a little more breakout force.

Most relief valves can be adjusted so the simple answer is yes, if you shim the relief valve your loader will have more lifting force. Question becomes how much is to much..

You are very right. There is a TZ on here for sale with a cracked rear axle and then I've seen a couple posts with frame cracks up near the engine.

Might be best to leave well enough alone, but that is hard to do.

Just remember that when you shim your relief valve, you are changing the pressure for the whole system. That means the hydraulic pump is under increased pressure all the time. Its internal seals and the o-ring seals on the outlet tubing may not be able to take increased pressure. The cost of a shim kit is cheap, but the cost of replacing pump seals or buying a new pump is expensive. I'd love to have more power from my loader too, but I checked the hydraulic system pressure and it is dead on the factory spec. I will not change it. Even with that, I had to rebuild my pump because it blew the internal seals while I was working the loader very hard handling large rocks. All I'm saying is there is a reason for the specs and limit. If NH thought your TZ could handle more pressure, they'd crank it up too and beat the competition. Don't you think they'd like to brag that their little tractor could lift more than the competition? They use restraint and I think we should too.:)

I can't disagree. Probably the best thing for me to do is verify that the system is at factory settings.
