Yesterday my wife and I attended the first annual Peanut Proud Expo in Blakely, GA. Blakely is/was the home to one of the two Peanut Corporation of America facilities. The greed of just a very few has thrown the whole peanut industry in a turmoil. A lot of good people have lost their jobs and, not knowing what the demand for peanuts will be, the farmers don't know how much to plant, if any. It is estimated that the acreage in peanuts will be 30% less this year.

We decided to attend the Expo, just for a little bit of morale support. Blakely is located a little over an hours drive west of us and it was a nice spring Saturday morning drive.

Ok, so much for the background.
The first picture is a 'pickup' powered by peanut biodiesel.
Second is a NICE size JD tractor with a 12 row peanut planter(in transport mode). Just for reference for the size, my wife is 6 foot 5 inches tall.
Oh, well, that's a lie, but that tractor is big.
Third, another bigun.

Being a peanut addict myself, I hope they don't cut back so far on planting that the prices go way up. Obviously, a few in that company made some serious mistakes, but I also feel the whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

Yes, we like peanuts, especially unsalted dry roasted. I had my first ever grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the Peanut Proud Expo. It was good and they handed out other peanut products. Something about them being free made them taste real good. :D

The Chinese has gratiously agreed to supply all of our future peanut needs, and have also contributed melamine, antifreeze, and extra strength coumadin in their newest reconstituted peanut residue formulations. Dog lovers all over the country could not tell the difference.

Georgia peanuts contribute to Global Warming and the United Federation of Peanut Farmers make WAY too much money. Their benefits are out of line with peanut producers around the world.

I do believe I red that on the innernet....

Of course its a manly pickup, It's a FORD:).

Yes it is but the color scheme could need some help. It would great parked in my driveway though. :)

Like Bird and others, I'm a peanut fanatic but I did try those "boiled peanuts" a couple of times when I was in Georgia, and I'm sorry, but those are just nasty. What a thing to do to the noble peanut. Dry roasted is the way to go.

A friend was on vacation, and brought me back some canned boiled/salted peanuts. They were still in the shell. Must be a regional thing. These were not nasty, but I would not go out of my way to get more...

I like roasted peanuts too. And peanut butter...

I don't recall seeing canned peanuts still in the shell, but I do have some of the Roasted Jumbo Peanuts shown in the lower left corner of the picture. I like peanuts roasted in the shell. They're too messy to eat in the house, but sitting out on the patio with a cold drink and shelling peanuts ain't a bad way to kill time.:)
