I have a 5525. I have been thinking of adding another tractor like a 5625. Of course, they have stopped making the 25 series. I looked at the 5E series and it looks like an open station tractor with an after maket cab on it. The way the EPTO is a pull thingy instead of a lever and all the controls on the dash, etc. I looked at the 5M and it looks like a mini-6000. Larger frame, better cooling, 6000 style 3 pt hydraulics, etc.

The 5E is priced like my 5525 I bought 4 years ago and the 5M is almost $15K more.

I wonder when there will be an in between. At these prices I might consider a 6100D instead.

I can certainly understand that, when I was shopping for a new tractor I was amazed how low the prices were on the low end 6000 series, Thing is I knew the 4520 was the right size for the majority of my tasks. Maybe next time.

I am going to have to take a serious look at a lower end 6000. The 6100D looks good but I am wondering if a 9F/9R PR will be enough gears. I have the 12/12 PR in my 5525 and sometimes I feel like I need more gears.

I am thinking of a 6100D without a FEL might be the right way to go.

I saw a 5105M (top of line) sitting next to 6000 series last week. The 6000 was still slightly larger in overall size but seem beefier all the way around. Both use the same size engine of 276 cu in. I didn't look very long and I didn't get in the cab of either, but I thought the 5000 M series cab was sparse and marginal for a high end model. The 5105 had a 105 hp and the 6000 D series varies from 82-115 hp. Personally, I think JD (and few other companies) are heading down the wrong road. There is way to many series and models with in a series. There are 14 different models in the 5000 series line, spread out over the D, E and M lines. This is considered the utility tractors. We don't need 14 different models in one series. A dealer can't possibly have more than a couple of models available to see on a lot. I believe JD makes the 5000 series in 3 different coutries just to add more confusion.

I just realized a few days ago that JD makes a 4005 and 4105 tractor. Kind of stuck between the 3000 and 4000 series. Why? They have 35 and 40 hp respectively. How can it be much different from comparable model of a 3000 or 4000 series?

I would consider the 6115D then since with a little more power you should be able to get some headroom in a given gear without the need to downshift. For the larger tractors and to save bucks a 9 speed should suffice.

Radman, with fewer models and increased sales of the models that would be left it would appear that volume sales could lead to higher profits. But what do I know?
