I am looking at what I believe to be a 2004 GC2300. The only thing is that it is on the dealer's lot with 46 hrs. They got it off another dealer's lot to try to move it. For 46 hrs, it is in rough shape in my opinion. Some dings, rust, and severe sun fading. The thing is that they are talking about being able to do some great dealing on it. My question is "Should I be worried about it sitting that long?" I've never had a diesel, and so am in the dark. Also, I am really wanting a pull behind mower but they are steering me towards the MMM. Is there any issues with the 60" pull behind on this thing? I will be using it primarily to mow (some use of FEL) on a bit of a hill.

Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

46 hours on the dealer's lot seems like a lot to me. That's some pretty heavy test driving if you ask me. Are they going to give you a standard warranty? Deal them down till they bleed.

I just got a 2300 myself and I opted for the pull mower because of hilly and uneveness of the land I have to mow. IF you really want the read mower then don't let them steer you differently. From my research, there's not a big difference in price. maybe they have a bunch of mmms sitting around and just want to get rid of one.

Some Massey dealers around here have a policy of "try before you buy", and they will bring a tractor for you to use for a weekend, etc. before you decide to buy. It could be that this tractor is one that they did that with, and so has been basicly a "rental" unit. You might ask about that. Otherwise, I might suspect that it actually had more hours than that, and the hourmeter has been replaced at some point.

What is the reason for a rear mower and not a mmm? I picked the mmm, But did I missing something about it. I thought the rear mower would be harder to navigate around trees, buildings and such things compared to a mmm.

It is more difficult to navigate in close quarters with the rear mower, but some also think that when mowing rough terrain, the rear mount is better. I think it's up to the individual operator, what they are most comfortable with.

I mow in close quarters and rough terrain and I use a MMFM.

Thank you for the input so far. The dealer said he'd call me this evening with a price, but I haven't heard a word from him yet. Def. a strike against him.
As for the pull behind, the land is still a bit rough and I was hoping this would survive better than the MMM. Also, there is a small stream I would need to cross to get to my folks and I am afraid of dragging on the ruts. May never happen, just one of those crazy fears of hurting equipment in odd ways.

Change of plans. They wanted about 12000 for the old one that had been on the lot. Found this out when I  called this morning. However, they said a man just traded one in this morning. 2006 2300 with MMM and FEL, low hours (said less than 200). They priced me 10,000 cash for tractor and 1 year full warranty. Any thoughts on this? I know the 12000 is high for what I saw out there on the old one, but with this being the end of the 2300, is 10,000 looking pretty good?
Thanks,
Josh
