Hi I hope someone can help.
I have a AC Diesel 700. It needs its first oil change. I've read the manual many times.
It says the engine oil I should use is 15W40. The same kind of oil I would purchase for my car's oil change? Is that right?
Diesels don't use another kind of lubericating engine oil?
I live out in the country and don't really want to take my ATV in for an oil change if I can learn do it myself.
Also, I have the correct oil filter (ordered from the dealer) Do I need a special tool to remove the old filter? Thanks, if I can get through it once I'll be set.

Welcome.

You need an oil formulated for diesels. Rotella is favored by many here.

If you don't have a filter wrench that will fit your filter, take the filter to an auto parts store and find a wrench that will fit.

You need to buy oil that is made for a diesel engine.. The two digit ratings will start with a 'C' - such as CF (older rating), CG, CH, CJ (newer rating) etc.. You will want to look at your owners manual and determine what rating they recommend. Typically the newer ratings are backward compatible. IF if it calls for a CG you could use CJ in it..

A lot of ppl use and love Rotella 15w40, it readily available and cost is reasonable - you can get it at walmart, autozone, advance auto - they have 3 versions - dino, synthetic, and a dino/synthetic blend -

good luck

Many thanks to you both. Since moving to our farm, my sister and I, we have received more help from members of this site than we could have hoped for. ~ I'd like to learn everything about my ATV and it's maintenance. I also have a new swisher mower with a beautiful Briggs and Stratton gasoline engine.
