Put a strong steel post in the center of the span, paint it a bright color, and tell your wife "Don't hit the post."

Would like a carport on the east end of garage . Free standing pole type structure . North side poles will sit on cc drive . South side will be posthole , augered in . Going 26 ft east from garage with posts , 6x6 . M y concern is a 33 ft span where we enter .Do not want any pillars in the support . My wife would knock em out ! Is this possible ? Would like your input . LD1 or Eddie Walker , would like to hear from you . Thanks , Kevin .

You can use mono trusses 3/12 or higher pitch. I did same worked beautifully. Got them at Menards 28 ft.
I just put 2x8 headers on each side of 8 ft on center posts and covered with vapor barrier and metal roofing.

Built many steel buildings, 33' is not a huge span, my shop is 50' wide and I have built some wider. As for racking, that can be handled with cables in the roof. You just need a design like others said.
