We just lost four firefighters, and another is in critical condition. These lives lost, for a fire that was deliberately set. It is hard to understand how someone could do this. I can not imagine the horror those five brave people went through as the fire overcame them. Although this crew was from half a state away and a different agency, it just hits so close to home.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the familes of those brave and courageous heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to that courageous fire fighter that is clinging to life.

Pretty awefull and the survivor does not sound like he is in good shape.

I read the fire has cut off a RV park with hundreds of people.

Afternoon Robert,
Yes, I saw that story on the news last night ! That is a terrible tragedy for sure. We have had some bad brush fires here in the north east but absolutely nothing compared to what you guys have to deal with !!!

My thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones of the deceased firefighters.

In my layman's mind fire fighters are our unsung heroes. Policemen don't go through half of what firemen do each day. I echo everbodies sentiments.

And Robert, I don't know if you heard or not, but right down the hill from you we lost a deputy sheriff pre-dawn Fri. a.m.

He pulled over a white van where Dillard Rd. runs into Jackson Hwy., made his first call in o.k. & said he was bringing the driver in, but never made 2nd call. He was found shot in the head, had been on the job here TWO DAYS and is survived by a wife and 6 y.o. son. We have 3 small elementary schools spread out in this rural area and a guy in a white van had been reported trying to pick up children at 2 of them. The murder happened just down the road from the 3rd. As a teacher and as a parent, I get sick to my stomach thinking about these perverts and what they do to children.

No politics here. Brave people work to protect us; I wish we could do a better job keeping BAD PEOPLE from having the means to do all this stuff. I wonder if this could have been prevented if he'd been on patrol with a partner. I wonder whether the county budget could/should be structured differently so that officers don't have to patrol solo. Very sobering. Makes me think of how much I have to be thankful for and how actually trivial are the little daily things that seem such problems at other times.

Yes. Our Cub Scout Cubmaster works near there.

I saw a couple deputies from our county(EDSO) yesterday evening. I told them to be careful out there and be safe. Parts of this hit home, because Fire and Law Enforcemnt work closely.

I sincerely hope the people that started the fire in Cabazon, and those that killed this deputy, are found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Courts constantly make it hard to keep thugs is prison. I just read that the Ninth went and ordered a new trial for a murder because the victims wore badges with the pictures of the victims into the courtroom which obviously led to an unfar trial. I guess if the victims of the family had yelled out that the man was a murderous thug that would require a retrial as well...

What I have been told for years is that single officer cars are safer then two officer patrols. I think it depends on how much time it takes backup to arrive.

I googled the incident and the paper said that it took hours to sent another unit to check on the officer after he went missing. That is very disturbing but it depends on what was really said during the last transmission.
