Seen plenty of brumbies but never photographed them, they are just a variety of breeds that have gone wild and bred, either escaped or dumped horses.
They are trying to cull them at the moment and it is meeting with a lot of resistance but they are damaging the land.

Same thing with wild horses in the American west. Damaging the land but huge resistance to management.

For several years my daughters had an arrangement to ride horses at a stable, they had a lot of fun from that. Somewhere I have print photos of them riding bareback in the waves on a beach. But I managed to never have to take on horses.

Two daughters, both represent the State in SJ and Dressage, I am doomed, we have six at the moment but it is a fluctuating population, they often take them to the beach for a swim and they love it, certain beaches are set aside for this as I would not like to encounter a horse deposit while swimming.
Brumbies are all over the Country and the controversy is in my home state of Victoria, most introduced species cause damage and are trying to be flushed out and destroyed such as fox, feral cats and dogs but the groups who call for this want to protect deer as they are 'beautiful' despite the damage they do to trees.
We call it the Bambi syndrome.

Just trail horses for me. My daughters 24 year old Appaloosa ‘Tonka,’ the maybe 30 Year old Halflinger ‘Whisper’ and my 6 year old paint ‘Ringer.’
The Appy was our fist horse 3 years ago, the little old man that had her raised her from a foal and rode her everywhere, he wanted her to go to a good home and not be traded around, my daughter fell in love with her at first sight, those two have an actual bond. But I ride her and use her quite a bit too. The Halflinger we got for my daughter to use on trails, he pretty much just follows the horse in front of him, nothing fancy or crazy about him, excellent kid horse to lead around on or pony on the trails. Ringer is my new one, main reason for getting him was so my daughter could enjoy more time on the App on the trails (Whisper is too small for anyone not a kid or small adult), Ringer is progressing quite well and will be an excellent horse once we get past some of the shenanigans that younger horses are known for.

Me on Tonka dragging a deer home. IMG_1639.jpg
Whisper, if anyone can envision Eyore off of Whinnie the Pooh that is this horse, doesn't get excited about much and easy going.IMG_1467.jpg
Newest addition to the Birdhunter1 Ranch, Ringer is working out for us so far. IMG_1673.jpg

Just a bit of trivia with the hunt, the jackets are called 'pink' and the number of buttons and placement of buttons signify the standing of the hunter, there are three, four or five buttons on the jacket either single, in groups of two or three, they all show the rank of the wearer.
The military horses are the Shrine Guard from the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance and the riders are dressed in WWI type uniforms from the Light Horse, most are volunteers but some belong to Victoria Police, they appear on certain occasions and this was Remembrance Day (11th November) about 10 years ago, as I recall it was quite a hot day.
I was invited to the opening of the Melbourne Hunt Club a few years ago, they dress for the opening and the last hunt for the year, about 50 pairs of hounds (they call them pairs and each has a name, they have their own trailer to get them there), one Master who is the one with the horn which the hounds respond to and on this day two foxes didn't come home for dinner.
They were chased into a hole on the banks of a river and there were hounds falling in everywhere trying to get them out, one hunter has a 12g and despatches the fox rather than let the hounds tear it to pieces, once killed the hounds are allowed their trophy.
The hunt lasted about 6 hours and a lot of ground was covered.

The 'posy' the hunter is wearing with the cup is heath and is what all Melbourne Hunt Club members wear on formal occasions.
Each club has its own floral buttonhole.
