Just a bit of trivia with the hunt, the jackets are called 'pink' and the number of buttons and placement of buttons signify the standing of the hunter, there are three, four or five buttons on the jacket either single, in groups of two or three, they all show the rank of the wearer.
The military horses are the Shrine Guard from the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance and the riders are dressed in WWI type uniforms from the Light Horse, most are volunteers but some belong to Victoria Police, they appear on certain occasions and this was Remembrance Day (11th November) about 10 years ago, as I recall it was quite a hot day.
I was invited to the opening of the Melbourne Hunt Club a few years ago, they dress for the opening and the last hunt for the year, about 50 pairs of hounds (they call them pairs and each has a name, they have their own trailer to get them there), one Master who is the one with the horn which the hounds respond to and on this day two foxes didn't come home for dinner.
They were chased into a hole on the banks of a river and there were hounds falling in everywhere trying to get them out, one hunter has a 12g and despatches the fox rather than let the hounds tear it to pieces, once killed the hounds are allowed their trophy.
The hunt lasted about 6 hours and a lot of ground was covered.
