Hi Everyone;

I finally got a small farm and after five years was able to buy me a tractor, Gertrude is old but steady on her feet. 1974 International 464. I paid $5000 for her and a few implements; a drag box, a blade, a brush hog, something that looks like a backwards facing shovel and I am certain it has an official name. Looks like I could back up to a pile of dirt or waste and shove it in and carry it off to be dumped somewhere else. Clearly, I am ignorant, but a quick learner.

I do have several questions. Do any of you fill your wheels with calcium? Or do you think Windshield Washer Fluid would accomplish the same thing?

I don't think the ww fluid would weigh as much as the calcium... but I can guarantee that it would be a lot cheaper. Any ideas?

Okay, there you go. I've exposed my ignorance and asked for help. Now I think I'm going to find out what kind of forum this is going to be. I hope it is one full of friends.

My friends call Buck (The "P" is for Pilgrim... My Momma loved John Wayne.)

From Texas
Never use calcium, it will rust your rims.

Welcome to TBN Buck.........

RimGuard is the preferred liquid used to fill tires but many use washer fluid. I filled mine with washer fluid to the 75% level and it helps a lot. The backward shovel is called a 3 pt. dirt scoop as you figured out.
Feel free to ask questions and you will find a lot of help on here.

Do NOT use Calcium Chloride!
It will rot your rims!
Rimguard is the best, but is VERY expensive.
Windshield washer fluid is not quite as heavy, but is the most cost effective.

Don't use calcium.

backwards shovel looking thingy = "dirt scoop, pond scoop, poor mans loader, etc" A lot got done with them before the front end loader become common place and cheap enough for the average farmer to afford.

Glad you joined with us, Pilgrim. Not only is it a friendly site, but very knowledgeable people here also.

As I used to tell my students, anyone who is smart enough to ask for help, will never fail.

How about some pictures of that old iron?
