A super middlebuster?

Next new attachment for the homemade toolbar. I found this around a pile an old Farmall Super M. There were 2. Just an early turning plow for this tractor? It may not look that big and heavy, but just what you see must weigh2 over 125 pounds. I can barely lift it. the horizonal bar is solid 1.25"x2.5".

Anyone know anything about the different nose pieces? Looks like they all fit the tool but are slightly different.

I'm curious how wide the wings on the plow are and how wide a furrow it would make?

I cut the holes in the bar last night and stuck it in. The top of the plow is 12". To the bar it's 21". Total width has to be 17-20". I didn't measure that this morning.

We'll know how wide and how deep in a couple week!!

If you could find another like it for the toolbar, you could use the pair to semi-hill potatoes with. Depends on your row spacing, of course. Straddle a row and dig out the row middles.

Rob, I have a middle buster for my row cultivator. It was once a horse-drawn implement I believe...maybe not. Anyway, there are two angles welded to it's sides and drilled so it mounts on the cultivator. I think your mounting will be fine except you will need to support the part that extends out front. If you hit a rock while that middle-buster is buried, it will twist and deform that beam like it is taffy. That plow will have much more resistance than scarifiers on a boxblade. Nice job so far.

Rob, if you look at the front beam on the cultivator, you will see some reinforcement right in the middle under the 3PH yoke. That middle buster bent the front beam and my dad had to have it straightened and reinforced. Our ground was mostly sand, but in areas there were lots of basketball sized rocks buried about a foot down. When you hit one of those with this middle buster, the tractor stops instantly. The front beam just could not stand that shock from the middle buster.

Dad's tractor was a Ferguson TO-20, so I'm sure if I hit something with my 45 hp New Holland I could do some damage. That's why I suggested that you should build extra support for your middle buster. Your beam will work in normal ground, but if you hit a rock or root, you may have the beam twist.

I was close, the total width is 21". So by default this thing should trench a minimum of 12" deep and 21" wide. Cool.
