I suppose I could break down and splurge for another eight bucks or so on another five gallon yellow container. It's still way less than the money I'd have to dole out for on site fuel.

There is off road available next door to the truck stop but they have rather limited hours from what I understand. If I just make it a point to stop during the week when I'm out that way it'd probably be worth the effort in savings. I think I paid only $6.00 for my yellow container, at WalMart supercenter. The one where I live didn't have them, went to one about 15 miles away and they had a lot of them. You might try them anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If you buy onroad fuel for offroad use, save your receipts and you can get some of that tax back at tax time. It is a separate form but it's not that hard or time consuming to complete (and no effort at all if you use a tax program).

I believe you only get the Fed portion back, so you'd only get about half of it back (depending on the state) but it's better than nothing.

You are right on there. I saw that comment right after it was made...totally irrelevant and I was about to post a rebute to it myself...but did not as I figured it would just send the tread towards the trash can... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Comments like that might be made in jest...but the jest part does not always come across...

By the way, I have four 5-gallon yellow fuel containers that I fill with off road at a place about 13 miles from here...just filled up today...works well for me.

My yanmar 2cyl 1700 ( as you know.. many JD compacts use yanmar engines ) seems to not use any fuel.... I vaugely remember adding fuel every now and then.. but am sure that is just making up for evaporation! Really does sip fuel.

Now when I mow with my NH 1920.. I would guess about 5 gallons in 4 hours or so.. perhaps a bit more on the thick days. And that is with the tractor at pto rpm except when stopping to load / unload / refuel.. etc..
