A testimonial to the Yanmar 1700 and this site. Was driving by a local, old style, hardware store and there were tractors. Since my Ford N series drowned during Hurricane Isabel, I was in the market. Had never heard of compact, grey market tractors, but, ****, the price sure was good for a neat machine that had a 3 point system. Surfed the net and came across this site and learned everything that I ever wanted to know. Also came across Soundguy, a familiar name from the N series sites. Bottom line is that after checking with all of you (and Soundguy countless times on direct Email) I made the plunge.
My message to anyone thinking about all this is to do it! After some starter problems (go with new, not rebuilt) the 1700 has been fantastic! My buddy gave me a 5’ box blade that she handles with ease (now, if I could learn to use it smoothly, that would be nice). She handles a 24” scoop wonderfully, even if she does get a little light in the front end but Soundguy’s weight thing will solve that.) I’ve moved 2 dump truck loads of dirt in 2 days. I shudder to think how this would have killed me using the wheelbarrow method. Haven’t used the finish mower yet but that should be a snap if she’ll handle a box blade and a scoop.
The great joy was: seeing a Cub Cadet for $2200 at Lowes…no 3 point; noticing that my MTD lawn tractor had 18HP (but no 3 point); and, here’s the Yanmar with all the bells and whistles (and looks like new) and I only paid $2400.
Thanks to all of you kind folks for the counsel that worked out so well…this site is a great testimonial to the power of the Internet that was invented by someone…..Steve.
