I don't recall any hood breaking issues on the CC's, but I suppose if you hit something hard enough a plastic hood will crack. Read up here on this forum Texas about the 1000 series machines, there have been other problems with them that are much more serious and prominent involving the possibility of defective and/or inadequate hydrostatic drives on the 1000's. It seems some get a unit that works perfectly, others get one where the tractor can barely get out of its own way when mowing on inclines or pulling attachments.
My advice- pony up some extra $ for a CC2500 model with shaft drive and HD hydro- well worth the extra investment. Honestly, for an inexpensive lawn tractor, I would buy something other than a CC 1000 series to avoid the gamble. Whatever you do, buy from a DEALER and not HD or TSC- prices are the same, dealer will give you service.
I saw one incentive today on new CC's at TSC- you get a $250 TSC gift card when you buy a new CC there. TSC and HD keep doing things to work around the agreement to not undercut local dealers, and that just isn't right /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Oh, TSC does have in their stores a good oil filter cross-reference manual. I put a Honda engine on my 682, and the oil filter from Honda was $18.00. It referenced to a Fram filter available for about $4.00 at Wal-Mart /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
