Tractor
Small John Deere Garden Tractor we brought with us. Want to and need to buy a farm tractor and some attachements. Hope to build a Corvair Custom Hydraulic Tractor with a gas heater to move boats around and use in winter.
Hello Everyone,

I asked this in Snow Removal and had one good reply. However, I was looking for more feed back to make sure I purchase the best lights - tractor gift. (Smiles)

Could use your help! I like to get the following ordered and delivered before Christmas.

I have a neighbor who has been very kind to us since we moved to our farm.
A couple of nights ago she came over, because our snowblower was broke and we just got dumped on with heavy wet snow.
She cleared our long driveway so my wife could get out and not miss her doctor appointments.

We all know how the light from using high beams can bounce right back at you, making it harder to see, when driving a car at night while it is snowing.

For winter she has a rear mounted snowblower - used when backing up and a bucket the rest of the time.
I like to buy a nice LED light kit, or some kind of light kit, to help her see when using her snowblower and to be able to work from the back of her tractor year around.
But I do not want her to have that kind of problem with the light reflexing off the snow, coming out of the snowblower, making harder to see.

What do you have and recommend?
Where is the best place to mount them?

Thank you for your time and input,

Actually, the first place I would look would be the tractor dealer. If her tractor is a Deere, they have some very nice rear work lamps that plug right into the existing harness (this depends on the model of the Deere, of course).
As far as where to mount the lamps...again, if it comes from the tractor dealer, there may be mounting locations on the machine already. For example, the 790/3005 models (Deere machines) have a hole in the fender for the rear work lights. My 4400 has the rear work lights mounted about half way up the ROPS (factory installation...they were mounted before I bought the tractor).
If her tractor has a cab, roof mounting is the most typical.
If you go aftermarket, installation is a bit more involved and you'd want the wiring schematic.

As far as lamps...I'm not a big LED fan. Some are really bright, but some are not. No matter how those lights are advertised, you won't know what you get until you buy 'em and mount them. I prefer halogen.
You'll also want to determine if you want a spot type lamp or a flood lamp...maybe one of both. I prefer the flood type lamp since I want light that provides a wide illumination rather then distance. Plowing in reverse (or blowing snow in reverse) is a low speed operation, so she probably won't need a light that projects more then 30-50 feet.

Anyway, there have been dozens of threads on this subject, so do a search on TBN (and elsewhere) for more opinions and options.

I wanted to get something that I knew for sure was going to work well. Our 580 Case has oem lights and you can see pretty darn good with them.:thumbsup: So that is what I replaced my dealer installed POC lights with on my 75HP tractor. Very happy with them and to my surprise, they were very reasonable at about $30 each from the Case dealer.
I put 4 on, 2 forward and 2 backwards. ;)

I got a large - 6" - single tractor work light and mounted it on my tractor fender. There was already a hole in the fender and a pigtail off the wiring harness to hook it to. Its a flood lamp and provides great rearward illumination when blowing snow at night with my PTO blower. I got the light from the Kubota dealer and the nice thing is its in a very heavy duty rubber mount so it can take the bumps & bangs of everyday use. Its not fancy - just a good heavy duty work light.

I have and LED Rear light on my little B7510. Works great.... but I don't have a heavy duty alternator so I opted for a less current draining LED. Also, cool running LEDs will not melt accumulated snow from a snow blower.
