Tractor
New Holland T1510
Hello there tractor guys

I just picked up a 2010 New Holland T1510 tractor (30 HP) w/FEL

It will be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday

I need to also get a tiller. (Basically the only reason for buying the tractor)

I searched the forums and understand it is best to get one as wide or wider than the tire tracks...no problem.

The sheet on the tractor says it is 62 inches wide with 25 HP at the PTO.
(are the specs exact on them brochures...or should I wait and actually measure the tire width from outside to outside?)

Does anyone know if the KKII 60 incher actually cuts 60 inches (which is short I know) or is it only 56 or 58 inches...or will the 2 inches even matter?

I looked at the 72 inc KKII but that requires more pto HP than I would have

The 48" one seems to say the max tractor HP is 25...so would my T1510 be too much for that?

I would be ok with the 48 incher if tire tracks are indeed a big problem (you know, the offset feature)

Thanks in advance guys

Check and see if the KK has any offset. Some tillers have some offset built in. My 62" wide JD 660 is offset and takes out my 72" width tires with ease. Really all you need is for it to take out ONE tire. You can make it work that way but both would be better. If the KK has no offset I think it would take out your tracks pretty easy. They do till wider than they are listed by about 1-2 inches on either side depending on soil conditions.

If your getting it to till lots of ground you might ought to consider stepping up in quality. KK tillers have a good reputation but if your tilling lots of ground for many years your might want to think about something more "commerical" in nature.

Thank you for the reply and info

I just want it for my meager plot....about 50 by 80 or so...and maybe 1 or 2 others like that in town

So...that is good if they cut a bit wider than they are rated at..

thanks again

I think you could go to a 72" with 30 HP. We run a 60" Kubota tiller behind a Kubota B7500 which has 21 Engine and 17 PTO HP.
That tractor seems to run it just fine.

When I had a 2ohp at the shaft I had no problem with a 6'. I guess it would depend more on soil if you could or not.

Thanks for the replies

The soil at my place has been tilled 2 or 3 years in a row, but has sat 1 year untilled, so it should still be workable.

Maybe I should rent a 6 foot tiller first and see if the tractor handles it.

Thanks again for any and all advice

Does your tractor have a creeper gear? If you have one or a tractor with a really slow 1st gear it will help. Renting a tiller or borrowing one sounds like an excellent idea to see if you tractor will handle it. You might want to check with the dealer where you are buying the tractor as to what they reccommend. They might give you a "deal" on one since you are buying the tractor, and they would deliver it with the tractor.

Creeper gear...no

but it is a hydro transmission so I should be able to go slow enough

The dealer "says" they only carry LandPride and the only have 1 in stock....

they rented it out twice and they still want $2400 for it ($2400 for something used?! FUNNY!!!)

I honestly forgot to ask the size then.

But he did say he would rent it to me.

Maybe I will do that first...rent that one here next month...after I douse the plot with roundup and let it breathe.

No reason for Roundup. Your tiller will kill EVERYTHING it runs over. Tillers serve two functions. One to prepare a seedbed by making it plantable and the other is killing weeds/grass like you can't belive. Now you'll need to mow it or the grass and vines will wrap around the rotar. But just save your money on the roundup. Let the tiller get you a total kill.
