I have a JD 455 and would like to add a 3pth to it. Can anyone tell me where I can buy the lower and upper links (after market ) and what is involved with installing and making the hydraulics work ? Also, I have a forward PTO to run my mower deck. Can i add a rear PTO ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try these guys:

Ruegg MFG LLC

Alot of people have been very happy with his 3 point hitches.

Just beware, I believe the hitch for your tractor would be a category 0...attachments can be difficult to find readily.

As far as hydraulics....assuming you mean for the 3 point, they already exist on your tractor as far as I know. There is a 3 pt hydraulic ram that actually links to your deck, that's how the deck goes up and down. That same ram will rotate the rockshaft on your 3 point once you install it. That's how it works on the earlier 400 and 300 series deeres anyway.

Bob,

Birdmayon gave you the right link. I installed a Ruegg 3 point hitch on my 455 and love it. You can get either Cat 0 or Cat 1 (limited). I went with the Cat 1, and it has proven to be very valuable.

Yes, there is a rear PTO kit for the 455. The number is still current with JD. It's a most-of-the-day project for someone of average mechanical skill and a pretty complete set of tools.

When you're done, you'll have a SCUT instead of a garden tractor!

Thanks jeffinsgf Great to hear from someone that Has a 455 and has installed the 3pth. I will go to the site Birdmayon gave me. I talked to my dealer about the pto and he quoted $687 for the pto kit and said it would take me about 4 hrs to install. I probably won't do the pto but will install the 3pth. I have other larger tractors with attachments but thought I would try to make my 455 more useful and versatil

Thanks again guys. This is a wonderful forum.

When i went looking for a back-up for my 3520 while it was at the salon getting a warranty job, i did want something similar to a 455, but the pricing was a bit too high for me. I also wanted to add a 3PT hitch set-up too.

I wanted a BX1500 but decided to check out a JD x455 first in hopes of saving money over going with a BX1500.
The best I could do on a 455 was around $4000 for a used 500 to 800 hour one built in the mid to late nineties, plus an additional $1000 plus installation cost for putting a 3 point and rear PTO on it.
Now we're up to $5000 plus and it's still only a 2 wheel drive garden tractor.
As it turned out I wound up with a 2003 BX1500 with only 380 hours on it.
It came standard with the 3 point hitch and rear PTO along with 4 wheel drive.
Came to $4525 delivered

1*It's a most-of-the-day project for someone of average mechanical skill and a pretty complete set of tools.

2*When you're done, you'll have a SCUT instead of a garden tractor!
1*I didn't have to spend any time installing a 3 point hitch or rear PTO on this.

At $4525.oo It came with them.
I looked at a real nice 1996 or 1998 JDx455 with 400 hours for $3500 but it would have cost another $1000 to $1200 to buy a 3 point and rear PTO for it.
That brought the JD up to $4500 - $4700 plus the cost of labor to install the PTO and 3 point and when I got done all I'd have is a 2wd garden tractor so I declined the offer.
Had the X455 had a rear PTO and a 3 point on it I would have jumped on it for $3500?

2*A PTO and a 3 point hitch does not make an x455 a S-Cut.

These are my other tractors with rear PTOs and 3 Point hitches ; but i leave the tiller and BH on them all of the time.

The nice thing about having this tractor is the rear PTO and 3 point hitcth is always available for other rear attached implements.
